Woman forgets why she exists after accepting cookies, denying notifications, rejecting newsletter, blocking location request and closing help chat
What started as a mundane web search ended with a deep existential crisis for a young Janet in Baltimore. A regular modern website on the first page of Google search results seemed to contain the answer she was looking. It loaded in mere 18 seconds, then proceeded fetching the web fonts. Soon, the website started asking about cookies, requesting notifications permissions and location information, and promoting a newsletter with a physics-defying half-a-pixel "close" icon.
Minutes later, when Janet finally reacher the text, the feeling of dread had already started to raise deep inside. As soon as she swiped down on the trackpad, a jerky non-native scrolling made the text move in a jarring way, and a customer service bot chat window appeared on top of the text.
At this point Janet "forgot why exist", closed her laptop and started staring into the wall, where she remains under constant supervision of her family and doctors.
